summer party&pin-up impressions

Tonight is my works summer party so I decided to take my tropical Collectif dress out for a spin (even though the weather outside is far from tropical)
I was waiting for this dress to come in for the longest time and I've been dying to wear it since it arrived.
its a little shorter than I usually like but I'm ignoring that because I love everything else about it so much, here you can see the back and also a back view of my hair, which I have rolled up in the back with a front roll and small victory roll in the front.
How amazing if the neck line and bamboo buckle!!
(excuse messy wardrobe area)
it definitly makes me feel like a tropical tiki pin-up so heres my best impression!
I better run before I'm late!

bye for now!

Friday morning at the crack of dawn I undertook something I have stubbornly fought against for the past five months. That's right, finally my soldier won the war and I camped. We travelled down friday morning and the weather was on my side, after the torrential rain we've had recently, the sun decided to follow us down to Kent. The rest of the boy's were already on site, so when we arrived all we had to do was set up our beds etc. Soon after the boys had to go down for the battle, My soldiers grandparents, cousin and I found a good spot on a hill and settled down to watch.
Just after they'd finished. I think my beau looks an utter dream in his uniform.

After the battle we had a little walk round the huge stalls field, we were both exhausted though and not really in the mood to shop so we headed back to the camp site where it took mere moments for my soldier to thrust a huge rifle into my hands and begin teaching me how to shoot, eek!
The weapons the boys use during shows are all blank firing but they're still a bit scary and still make a hell of a bang! It was so heavy I could barely lift it
this photo is here just for the pure hilarity of my facial expression whilst struggling to pull the bolt back. So un girl power of me but I needed a lot of male assistance during this little lesson.
and another just because as scary as it was I feel quite proud of myself, mostly for being able to hold it up and for not injuring myself/anyone else.
After the guns were safely taken away from me, My soldier and I took Alan's WW2 jeep for a spin around the site. It was really fun even though we nearly broke it, oops! sorry Al!! I think he looks super cute in this picture! So happy to get behind the wheel and try to start convincing me a Jeep would be a really good investment for him to make......
Alison and I watching the Jive Aces
On friday evening we got dolled up (not easy in a tent I can assure you) and went dancing, Jimmy and Alison taught me to do the Charleston stroll and gave me a mini jive lesson. Here we are at the dance Alison is wearing a lovely 1940s dress whilst mine is a pretty Tara Starlet one I got a few weeks back from the sample sale.

No pictures were taken all of Saturday but this is from Saturday night, we got dolled up again but just ended up sitting round the camp fire for a bit, we were too cold and tired for much more. I'm wearing my green parade skirt, brown parade shoes, Tara Starlet VE blouse and the jacket from the uniform my soldier bought me to try and convince me to wear, I'm still unsure.

Sunday we did little more than lounge around on top of a tank as this picture of my beau demonstrates.

and finally this is a picture which shows the font part of the boys display, we had some German POW's staying with us and as you can see here, one was misbehaving.
over all I'm still not sure this is for me but if it means I get to see my boy I guess I'll continue going along. Anyway this has been an extremely text/picture heavy post (I'm making up for lost time) so I'll leave it there. There potentially might be more pictures to come as I have another film to develop, which also includes last nights fun night out watching the Olympic opening ceremony rehearsal!

thats all for now!

Holiday Blues

As I mentioned briefly before the lovely family holiday we planned didnt quite go,well, as planned but no use crying over spilt milk as they say so I thought I'd share the very few pictures I managed to take whilst there. I have a few more but they are all from the German occupation museum so I may do a post just for those ones alone.
Little Chapel, Guernsey

on a very rainy day we went to the little chapel, it lived up to its name was was teeny tiny but absolutely lovely even in all of the rain. When my Nana visited in the 1950s and 60s it was only decorated by a few shells, now it is completely covered, inside and out, with bits of broken pottery. The steps outside were completely covered by pottery donated by Wedgwood.
This statue of Mary was in the rock cut into the front of the Chapel. I do love religious imagery.I had high hopes for the gift shop, mostly hoping for a rosary to add to my collection but sadly there wasn't any.
My Nan, Mum and Me
One of the only pictures of people to actually be taken during the holiday, you cant really see but I'm wearing my beloved classic Freddies jeans, a cute little crop top with blue roses on from Asos, black cardi and a cute black heart shaped bag I've had for years.

The most beautiful old car I saw in a car park. Casually running errands in a classic car, that is the dream!

so, only a little snippet really but I thought I'd add them anyway. I'll be adding another post shortly with my pictures from this weekends War&peace show.
Bye for now.

'The object of my affection....

can turn my complexion from white to a rosy red'

ps. I can't get this out of my head!

A room with a view...

I'm back.
Due to one reason or another the holiday didn't quite go as we'd hoped, for this reason I wasnt really in the mood to do outfit pictures, I also don't really have a whole lot to say about it, I'd rather not think about it anymore so I thought I'd do something a little different and show you some pictures of my favorite bits of my room.

a few of my favourite hats on the wall, vintage baskets, vintage cases used to store, from bottom, clothes that are more like dress up clothes, clothes I don't wear, head scarves, stockings and hair flowers.
This is my dressing table on top of an old tall boy I found on the street.
My mum has bought me most of these things as presents. The blue and yellow ladies store my hair pins, the toby mug is for make-up brushes and down at the front is my beautiful 1950s Bakelite and crystal hair slide my boy bought for me at an event.
A close up of the things are above my dressing table. The little crying girl cross stitch was a birthday present, as were the ceramic red shoes(the red shoes is one of my favourite fairy tales/film) The vintage fashion illustration I got from a junk store and the little silk souvenir hankie was a valentines gift from my soldier.
Now, this is probably my absolute favourite part of my room (after my wardrobe of course!)
For a while I've collected photographs of service men, Mostly WW2 but some earlier. This is a small collection on the wall above my bed. The small oval one on the right is one of my most treasured possessions, my Russian soldier playing the accordion. I later found out he is actually Belorussian which is where my nanny is from.

So, that was just a small trip around my room. Now I have to go and continue preparing myself for the weekend ahead, I'm heading to War&Peace tomorrow, is anyone else going?

The Sunshine Island

I'm being appalling at updating my blog at the moment, I just seem to have lost all momentum not to mention having had such a chaotic past few weeks I've just not had a moment, but tomorrow morning I'm going to Guernsey with my entire family for my Nana's 80th birthday so I absolutely promise to take lots of pictures and once I return hopefully regular posts with resume!

bye for now!
Holiday sun here I come!
